Meet Maxine
Hi, I’m so glad you’re here!
I started practicing Yoga ten years ago and became curious how a group of people, each carrying very different struggles, could gather & practice yoga together and generally leave feeling a little lighter.
I began Yoga teacher training in 2020 and kept pulling on that thread. This led me to specialise in Yoga & the Nervous System, which led me to specialise in Yoga for trauma, which led me to Somatics and finally to specialise in Somatics for the female nervous system.
I am now a trauma trained yoga and somatic practitioner and my study continues.
When I began my nervous system studies…
Outwardly my life looked fine, in fact people would comment on how organised and ‘sorted’ my life looked, but that was because I was an expert people pleaser, an expert masker and an expert at not feeling my feelings. This pattern was so ingrained it all just felt like my personality rather than what it was: a survival strategy deeply rooted in the fawn response.
In reality, I lived in fear almost all the time. I was too scared to show the real me in case that was a huge disappointment and people would leave, or not like me. Completely sub-consciously, my fear of not being liked or being rejected ran my life. I was an expert in reading rooms and altering my personality, my views, my whole self to be the appropriate fit for the circumstance, the person people would find the most pleasing, so that I’d be liked and not rejected.
Mostly, I stayed small, quiet and tried never, ever, to be a problem to anyone. This pattern of smallness (or preferably invisibility) is a pattern my nervous system learned as a child, it was how I learned to stay safe. Even as an adult these patterns of protection remained.
I now know from all my training and studying that our nervous systems, run our lives. It is continuously collecting data from which, combined with your life experiences (ie: what kept you safe before) it chooses the nervous system state most likely to keep you alive. The problem is mine stayed in survival because I never processed any of my trauma.
I’m also a dog-mum, a human-mum to two grown up children (my greatest loves) and a nan to an amazing grandson (my littlest love!)

“Thriving is what was meant for us on this earth. Thriving, not just surviving, is our birthrights as women.”
My journey to becoming a trauma trained Yoga teacher and Somatic coach has been anything but ordinary or easy.
It has taken a lot of courage, self honesty and deep trust in myself to get here, but now I’m here I want to help as many other women as I can to break free of people pleasing and perfectionism. Helping women live fully in their senses, in their pleasure, with a resourced nervous system that can hold all the inevitable challenges of life without overwhelm, shutdown, anxiety or burnout.
My aim is to share with you the dust of where I’ve travelled, with the intention that it will give you the courage to start. I’ll hold your hand and guide you. Your body holds wisdom that you mind cannot reach, my work is to help you uncover the pathway to healing and the inner feminine wisdom that is within you, just waiting for you to listen.
